“Our No. 1 primary business until the last two years was home building, “said Dwight Millard. “We built and sold new homes.” We are focusing now on selling existing bank owned, foreclosed homes and homes being sold as short sales.

The homebuilding divisions of Millard’s holdings stayed true to their roots, something not easy to do in any market, many agree.

Dwight Millard owns a variety of other businesses that operate under Millard Realty and Construction. That company was founded by his dad, Gordon Millard, who died in 1998. Today Dwight has many family members working for him – along with several 20-plus year employees who nearly quality as family.
Dwight’s wife, Sandra moved to
Dwight’s ventures include a residential real estate sales division, commercial construction and management operation and management of more than 500 apartments. Plus, the company is principal owner and operator o the Empire Ranch Golf Course, the 168-room Carson City Plaza Hotel and three other
Millard oversees the entire operation and in today’s economy is looking ahead to new ventures requiring new ways of doing business.
Millard always has looked beyond his own business. He has been on the board of the National Association of Home Builders since the 1970s; he is past president of BAWN and past president of the state homebuilder’s association. He is on BAWN's legislative committee and active in the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Being involved in the local and national associations has paid benefits back to our company,” he said. “In the national arena you get to see and understand the bigger picture of what’s going on.”
